s an integral part of the decelopment strategy wishing to make Cartago a sustainable and smart city, the model of Cartago Historico Digital and its foundations are based on the cultural and historic identity of the city and our citizen, and in the articulation of a clear and objective vision of sustainable and modern development of our city. Under the premisses of the construction of a society of information and knowledge, in respect to the use, the formation and the appropriation of the TIC by the inhabitants, in a transparent and inclusive way, promoting the development of initiatives and a greater profit of these in all the sectors of the economy and society of the canton.Rolando Rodriguez Brenes, mayor, said that “since the local digital government of Cartago, we wished to look at the future and we immersed ourselves in the technology following the path of urban planification, these topics being heavily linked. Nowadays we are the first digital city of Costa Rica and we've shown that if there is a politic will, it is possible to make great things, technology nowadays being a way of development for the citizen. At Cartago Historico Digital, the planification of the city is done with all the technological elements, the products, and the solutions within this urban pacification.Acknowledging the importance that have the ICT nowadays in the social and economic development of the city and the role that citizen and different public-private stakeholders (institutions-organisms-companies) in the participation, the design and the construction, the Digital Agenda -Cartago Historico Digital is the roadmap for the programmes and guidelines to follow in order to build the first smart city of Costa Rica, with the generation, the modernisation and the launching of new products, services, and intelligent technological solutions that facilitate and improve the quality of life of all the citizen of Cartago. All these actions will consolidate the status of Cartago as a canton promoting the sustainable use of its resources, a sustainable city.
