The Uraía Platform analyses and shares city experiences, organizes knowledge exchanges, produces recommendations on specific topics of interest for cities; offers opportunities for networking and match-making between cities and their partners, it also provides technical assistance to its partner cities to develop innovative projects.
Uraía supports innovation in local public management by encouraging the introduction of SMART technologies in three main areas:
Municipal finances: Uraía explores how local governments can use SMART technologies to increase local revenues and reduce expenses, including SMART solutions that help expanding local taxation, tackle informality, and improve legislation and procedures.
Public services and infrastructure: Uraía explores how local governments can make public services more efficient thanks to SMART technologies, including SMART solutions that help reducing costs and save energy in public lighting, water supply, waste management or mobility.
In order to make introduce innovation in municipal management through the use of SMART technologies, local governments need access to updated information on current trends. To date, our team has analyzed and assessed the experiences of more than 30 cities in the implementation of SMART projects for better city management.
Our inspiring practices catalogue is available in English, French and Spanish and keeps growing each month. Our goal is to support the transfer of knowledge and best practices from cities that have already implemented SMART projects, learning from their successes as well as challenges commonly faced.Once a year, the members of Uraía meet up to discuss a topic that is priority in their agenda and jointly elaborate guidelines, collect practices and assess on-going projects. Each year a different theme is selected based on the needs of the participant cities.
Based on the compiled experiences, analyzed trends and elements routinely documented on experimenting with SMART experiences, Uraía has generated two documents:
